Дарси с детства мечтала жить и учиться за границей. Сейчас ей 20 лет, она учится в Duke University на гранте и живет в Австралии. Ее девиз по жизни – нет ничего невозможного.
— С чего все начиналось? В каком возрасте ты узнала об обучении за рубежом? Это было мечтой или получилось спонтанно?
— Я с самого детства знала, что уеду, буду учиться где-то. Мне об этом рассказывала мама, она всегда меня поддерживала и говорила, что за границей больше возможностей. Это было мечтой, целью, нежели спонтанным решением. В школе я с первого класса знала, что мне нужны все «пятерки», чтобы поступить в университет. Я целенаправленно занималась английским языком. Я не знала всей процедуры поступления, как подавать документы в Штаты, но я точно знала минимум – знание языка и отличные оценки.
- Ты сказала, что целенаправленно учила английский язык. Изучение было только в рамках школы или ходила на какие-то курсы?
— Я изучала язык сама. Да, в школе были какие-то уроки, но я бы не сказала, что уровень преподавания языка на высоком уровне. Я всегда любила соц.сети, была фанаткой различных американских групп. Сидела в англоязычном Twitter, tumblr. По-сути, я начинала изучать язык для того, чтобы смотреть новые эпизоды сериалов или узнавать новости. Мне до сих пор сложно с той же грамматикой, просто потому что изучала язык посредством общения, либо просмотром фильмов и чтением книг.
— Вот ты изучаешь английский, приближается выпускной год. Как ты выбирала институт? Почему именно Дьюк [Duke University]?
— На самом деле я не владела информацией про университеты в США и единственным критерием было предоставление гранта для иностранных студентов. Я просто составила список университетов, которые предоставляют полную финансовую помощь абитуриентам и подала документы. Написала эссе и так получилось, что «Дьюк» принял меня, потому что я была финалисткой на стипендию от Билла Гейтса. Наверное, для меня это было каким-то знаком даже, что «Дьюк» исполнил мою мечту, которая раньше казалась невозможной.
— Какие были твои первые впечатлении об Америке, об университете?
— Я чувствовала радость, но в то же время и страх. Особенно когда прилетела в аэропорт в Нью-Йорке. Я вцепилась в свой паспорт и не знала, куда идти, что делать. Когда я заселилась на кампус, меня очень тепло встретили, и я чувствовала поддержку. У нас самого начала была большая занятость и я знакомилась с людьми, и в это время ощущала большую гордость за себя.
- Насколько я знаю, ты сейчас живешь в Австралии. Как так получилось, что ты оказалась на другом конце света?
— Поначалу это оказалось спонтанным решением. Тогда я еще училась на первом курсе, это был февраль и мне вдруг захотелось слетать куда-то. Мой университет предоставляет возможности обучения по обмену на семестр/на год. Сначала я думала, что полечу в Лондон на семестр. Потом я увидела у какого-то блогера Сидней, пляж и решила, что мне нужно туда — к океану. Буквально за один вечер я подала заявку и через сутки меня приняли. Там я провела курс по обмену. Сейчас я здесь на стажировке.
— Из чего состоит твоя стажировка? Это является «репетицией» будущей работы? На кого ты учишься и кем хочешь стать в будущем?
— На стажировке я работаю с разными проектами. От запуска нового бьюти-продукта в Австралии до помощи жертвам домашнего насилия.Я бы не сказала, что это «репетиция» моей будущей работы. Если честно, я еще не знаю кем хочу работать, кем стать в будущем, потому что мне всего 20 лет и я не против того, чтобы продолжить странствовать на моем пути. Я учусь по специальности экономика. Также у меня есть Визуальные медиа и Театральное искусство. Я открыта к различным возможностям. И если сейчас мне нравится маркетинг, а в будущем что-то другое, то я не буду против таких изменений.
— Австралия — это отдельный мир, о котором мало что известно. Расскажи немного о нем.
— Я могу рассказать о Сиднее, так как большую часть времени провожу именно здесь. Самое главное для меня — поиск всего и сразу. На одном уголке – океан, пальмы, солнце, пляж. Кажется, как будто ты в Лос-Анджелесе. Через 20 минут на поезде ты оказываешься в центре города где высотки, люди в костюмах. Кажется, как будто ты в Нью-Йорке. В Сиднее каждый может отыскать что-то свое. Достаточно легко найти единомышленников. В том плане, что здесь очень много иностранцев, эмигрантов, также много европейцев, русских. Здесь есть, чем заняться – много различной работы, каких-то встреч. Очень популярны субботние markets. Здесь очень расслабленный ритм жизни, у всех всё хорошо. Высокий уровень жизни, благоприятный климат – большую часть времени тепло. В Сиднее никто не торопится что-то делать, даже идти в университет. Нет давления, что у всех должен быть один и тот же путь. Тут все какие-то счастливые.
— Ты слышала какие-то стереотипы об Австралии? Что из этого — правда, а что — ложь?
— Самый главный стереотип о том, что здесь безумная живность, пауки, крокодилы и прочее.
Я бы сказала, что это ложь. Ясное дело, что возможно где-то в пустыне будут животные, но в городе я видела паука всего один раз и то, он был очень маленький. Тем более, не встречала ядовитых змей или кенгуру, которые носятся по улице. Самым главным стереотипом для меня было то, что я не знала, что из себя представляет эта страна.
-Как я понимаю, тебя привлекает в этой стране все: люди, климат, ритм жизни. Хотела бы остаться там навсегда? Или ты из тех людей, которым постоянно нужны перемены, новые места жительства?
— Мне всего лишь 20 лет и мои странствия, изменения места жительства – это нормально. Пока я молода, хочу увидеть как можно больше мест, путешествовать. Моя цель после выпуска университета – открыть для себя какое-то место, осесть там и найти стабильную работу. Друзей, которых не бросаю, как это происходит сейчас из-за постоянных переездов. Да, я бы хотела остаться в Австралии. Это один из моих вариантов. Я не строю планы, потому что у меня сумбурная жизнь, она подкидывает лимоны, из которых можно сделать очень крутой лимонад.
Обычно, когда я строю планы, у меня ничего не получается, но при этом приходит что-то другое, за что я безумно благодарна. Так же, как и Австралия стала спонтанным решением, мне кажется, что все в моей жизни так и происходит. Еще рассматриваю Канаду, Новую Зеландию и вообще много других стран для дальнейшего будущего.
-Что или кто тебя мотивирует? Какой совет можешь дать студенту, который только-только начинает свою взрослую жизнь, карьерный рост?
—У меня нет кумиров. Я бы никогда не променяла свою жизнь, личность, внешность на какую-то другую, потому что для меня личный мотиватор – я сама. Будущее – та самая картинка, которую я вижу, когда достигаю цели. Например,когда я подавала документы в Штаты, мотивацией было то, что я представляла как нахожусь там, что делаю. Меня мотивирует потенциал, который я могу реализовать.
Подростком я бы сказала то же самое, что говорю себе по сей день. Это те правила, по которым я живу:
- Не сравнивать себя с другими. У каждого свой жизненный путь.
- Слушать только себя, свою интуицию и свои желания. Принимать советы других, не бояться спрашивать о чем-то, но при этом иметь свое мнение, свое виденье жизни и кем ты хочешь быть.
- Нет ничего невозможного. Все, что ты можешь представить в своей голове, – ты можешь достичь.
