Технический прогресс начал стремительно развиваться, и художникам надоели классические традиции и эталоны . Тогда и произошло зарождение современного искусства. Эдуард Мане представил свою картину «Завтрак на траве», которая удивила публику . Появились новые направления, которые в совокупности представили собой «модернизм» .
Сначала это был «импрессионизм», в котором важно было вызвать у зрителя эмоции и чувства, в то время как классическое искусство пыталось донести до человека глубокую мысль . Представителями стали Э. Мане, О. Ренуар, К. Моне, К. Писсаро, Э. Дега и другие. Затем появились «символизм», который отображал действительность в форме символов и знаков («Cаломей» Бердслея), «кубизм» со своим устойчивыми геометрическими формами (Пабло Пикассо «Авиньюньские красавицы »), «абстракционизм» с объемными геометрически фигурами (Казимир Малевич «Чёрный квадрат»), «сюрреализм», который представлял мир через ассоциации (Сальвадор Дали « Сон, вызванный полетом пчелы») и экспрессионизм, стиль, где художник пытается напугать зрителя («Крик» Эдвард Мунк) .
Появляются новые технологии : аудио и видео, из-за чего «модернизм» начинает плавно переходить в «постмодернизм» . К стилям нового направления относят «концептуализм», «гиперреализм», «минимализм», «поп-арт», «хеппенинг», «перфоманс» . Резьба по книгам, граффити, рисование на грязных машинах, картины ,написанные собственным телом»,— стали формы нового направления «постмодернизм».
В 2007 году в России появился музей современного искусства «Гараж» . Каждый день помимо основных выставок, в «Гараже» проходят семинары, лекции и дебаты . В летнее время в «Garage Screen» — летнем кинотеатре показывают артхаусное кино .
С 1 июня по 30 сентября проводилась инсталляция Павла Альтхамера «Тишина» . Она находилась не в самом здании , а в садике рядом с ним и представляла собой место для медитации . Внутри инсталляции прошла серия «перформансов», которая с той или иной интенсивностью нарушала ее «тишину». Периодически по парку ходил оркестр, который напоминал медитирующим о том, что они все еще находятся в этом мире , как бы «удерживал» . Еще одной деятельностью музея стал фестиваль музыки . В 2021 году в течение нескольких недель вы могли послушать «тяжелый металл» и «рок», чередующийся с «народными песнями Скандинавии» .
Многогранный подход к зрители прослеживается и на самом выставочном пространстве . «Выбирая дистанцию: спекуляции, фейки, прогнозы в эпоху коронацена» — проект «Гаража», задумкой которого было показать не «что такое коронавирус ?», а «как карантин повлиял на людей ?» . Представил работы коллектива «самоорганизованной группы ШШШ», где вы могли поиграть в VR (виртуальной реальности) игру, вместе с тем посмотреть на работу Кирилла Савченкова и окунуться в мир непростой антиутопии Харлана Эллисона «У меня нет рта, но я должен кричать» про технологическую катастрофу, которая настигнет нас в будущем .
Сейчас же в музее проходят несколько выставок Томаса Деманда «Зеркало без памяти» и «Служба времени. О природе длительности, преодоления и аффекта». Первая выставка «Зеркало без памяти» преимущественно состоит из фотографий Томаса Деманда — немецкого фотографа . С помощью картона и бумаги автор показывает изображения из прессы и других источников . На первом этаже вы можете увидите самые популярные и значимые работы Томаса. На втором — подвесной кинотеатр, где показываются фильмы немецкого писателя режиссера, продюсера Александра Клуге. Вторая выставка «Служба времени. О природе длительности, преодоления и аффекта» состоит из инсталляций разных художников. Эта выставка посвящена духовным практикам и самопознанию . Представлено много художников аукционистов. Выставка объединяет художников разных стран и поколений, которые на разных этапах своих авторских поисков исследовали время.
Современное искусство бывает сложно понять, человеку, который первый раз столкнулся с ним . Задумка некоторых работ может показаться простой и не достойной звания «искусство», что вызовет бурю дискуссий и эмоций положительных или отрицательных эмоций, а, как мы помним, зародышем современного искусства стал «импрессионизм», который выполнял ту же функцию — вызвать эмоции. Иные художники наоборот нагромождают работы метафорами , что заставляет задуматься о чём-то великом и вечном . Такие размышления необходимы людям и художникам . Если бы не было «современного искусства» общество бы потеряло место для новых мыслей и самовыражения, которое нужно каждому человеку .
