К И Н О… Как же много возникает мыслей, после произнесённых букв! Ему ещё нет и двух веков, однако для нас это важное изобретение. Сначала смена кадров была лишь простым развлечением, а потом люди поняли, что в их руках настоящее «орудие», способное влиять на умы.
Толчком к развитию кинематографа в России послужили первые публичные сеансы Cinematographe братьев Люмьер (ранее они показали первые фильмы, длившиеся меньше минуты, парижанам (все мы наслышаны о «Выходе рабочих с фабрики Люмьер в Леоне», «Политом поливальщике», «Ловле золотых рыбок»). Братья решили распространить своё изобретение, показать всему миру. Поэтому в мае 1896 года в Санкт-Петербурге и Москве прошли первые киносеансы. Они произвели настоящий фурор среди зрителей. «Движущиеся картинки» стали для людей настоящим чудом.
В том же году состоялась первая в мире актуальная кинохроника – восшествие на престол царя Николая II. «Царскую хронику» снимал оператор, которого прислали Люмьеры.
К 1908 году в Российской Империи начинает появляться художественное кино, основным тематическим направлением которого были отечественная история, литература, а ещё театр и фольклор. Эти фильмы были больше похожи на запись театральных постановок, потому что наблюдалась и сценическая манера исполнения, и съёмки неподвижной камерой (забавно, но тогда любое движение камеры в игровых фильмах считалось техническим браком).
Расцвет советского кинематографа – период Первой мировой войны (как бы это странно не звучало). На удивление, кинопроизводство в тот момент достигало максимума. В 1916 году было произведено 500 фильмов, причём они становятся меньше связанны с национальным традициями: детективы (превратились в истории о разбойниках), психологические драмы и мелодрамы (носили характер социального неравенства).
Наиболее творческими работами были мистические драмы. В 1916 году Яков Протазанов экранизировал пушкинскую повесть «Пиковая дама». Это оперное либретто, смонтированное из 34 эпизодов. Были даже флешбеки (о них и предположить тогда не могли), а ещё «глубинная» композиция кадра. Чтобы передать волнение героя, оператор Евгений Славинский двигал камеру, она «волновалась». Необычно выглядели и тени на стене (да, они появились ещё до задумок о Носферату и других фильмов, в которых можно увидеть эту «экспрессионистскую» деталь).
27 августа 1919 год – роковой день. День, когда появились проблемы с развитием отечественного кинематографа. С него и началась история пропаганды.
Был издан декрет Совнаркома «О переходе фотографической и кинематографической торговли и промышленности в ведение Народного комиссариата просвещения». Иными словами, этим декретом была обозначена национализация кинематографа, установлена монополия государства на весь кинопроизводственный цикл (от сценария до сеанса). В основу нового, советского кино закладывалась идея всесторонней наглядной пропаганды, которая и была реализована в следующем десятилетии. Основной поток фильмов стал пропагандистским. В первую очередь это были фильмы Сергея Эйзенштейна, а также многие кинокартины Дзиги Вертова. Режиссёры учитывали общую малограмотность огромной части зрительской массы. Фильмы снимались в основном для рабочих, крестьян, красноармейцев. Все мы помним и «Броненосец «Потёмкин» (1925) Эйзенштейна, о восстании моряков военного корабля в июне 1905 года, и «Конец Санкт-Петербурга» (1927) Пудовкина, историю про крестьянина, который становится революционером.
Среди подобных фильмов были и непропагандистские. Они связаны с деятельностью Льва Кулешова, мастерской ФЭКС (Фабрика Эксцентрического Актёра) и единственным фильмом Дзиги Вертова такого характера — «Человек с кино-аппаратом» (1929).
Не все режиссёры взялись за прямую политическую пропаганду. Занялись ей наиболее одарённые. Они в силу своего таланта были способны на большее, чем реклама политического режима. Но из-за увлечения идеями Революции, духовного переворота и различными иллюзиями, увы, им не удалось заметить цинизма и лицемерия, с которыми действовали вожди, думавшие о власти, а не о стране.
1920-е завершились полной победой Сталина. В стране воцарилась настоящая диктатура с жесточайшей цензурой, массовыми арестами, казнями, что сказалось на функциях отечественной культуры. В фильмах появился звук, что было и хорошей, и плохой новостью для того времени. Теперь монтаж был не средством выразительности, как в 1920-х годах, а способом повествования. Смысл больше выражался шумами и звуком. В первые годы звукового кино звук воспринимался как средство информации. Идеологии тут никакой не подразумевалось, так казалось, по крайней мере.
Однако на Всесоюзном творческом совещании работников советской кинематографии в 1935 году Эйзенштейн упоминал о «повороте в сторону большего идеологического углубления тематики», позже в статье заявлял о том, что на экраны «начинают выноситься проблемы партии, проблемы коммуниста, проблемы большевика». Это стало своего рода особенностью искусства во времена тоталитарного режима.
Так, советский кинематограф 1930-х годов стал похож на “гитлеровское кино”, как бы грубо подобное не звучало. Суть заключалась в том, что людям не показывали то, что должны были. В гитлеровской Германии не снимали фильмы про поджог Рейхстага в 1933 году, про «ночь длинных ножей» (когда эсэсовцы Гиммлера расстреливали штурмовиков Рёма), про «хрустальную ночь» в 1938 году («всегерманский еврейский погром»). В нашей стране в это время происходили крестьянские бунты, нищенский уровень жизни, политические потасовки Сталина, большевистский Большой террор… Ничего этого не увидели советские зрители. Объяснение этому одно: тоталитарное общество не должно знать, что происходит на самом деле, его лишь заставляют верить в «светлое будущее». Действительность замещала мифология. Наступили «двойственные времена», а фильмы стали носить историко-революционный характер. Было множество картин, целью которых стало оправдание Гражданской войны. Из всех фильмов того времени выделяется «Окраина» (1933) Бориса Барнета (история о том, как в 1914 году разные люди в России стали понимать ненужность войны в их жизни).
Много фильмов посвящалось теме строительства нового общества. Трактовка была простой: каждый должен быть занят своим делом, но из множества всех этих обыденностей будет складываться что-то общее и великое. И фильмы были как раз про «обычные дела», к примеру, небезызвестная «Волга-Волга» (1938) Григория Александрова про урожай и взаимоотношения колхозников или история про молодого педагога, окончившего Московский пединститут и вернувшегося в родное село, чтобы учить детишек хорошему ( «Учитель» (1939) Сергея Герасимова).
Были и исторические фильмы, которые были сняты Эйзенштейном, Пудовкиным. Ромм и Протазанов трудились над экранизациями русской и зарубежной классики. Для детей создавались объёмные мультфильмы. По-особенному тогда смотрели «Золотой ключик» (1939) Птушко, потому что в картине соединялись приёмы игрового кино и анимации. Это было чем-то новым для зрителей.
1930-е годы – время разновидностей пропагандистского кино. Появление звука перенасытило советские фильмы политическим словом, лозунгами, большей пропагандой.
Во время Великой Отечественной войны, естественно, сократилось количество выпускаемых фильмов, потому что их создание требовало денег, а эти самые деньги в тот момент тратились на промышленную основу будущих войн, было необходимо оружие. Создавались «бедные фильмы» (массовый зритель – бедное население). Жанры были самые разнообразные (комедии, приключенческие и костюмно-исторические фильмы, сказки, мелодрамы), объединяло их одно: агрессивная пропаганда с лозунгами, которые были связаны с резким неприятием расизма, нацизма и которые стали неким средством общения большевиков с народом, и призывами. В фильмах изображались лишь низкие боевые и личные качества вражеских солдат, часто их показывали или слабыми, или вовсе монстрами. Их изображали наглым и глупыми, трусливыми в бою. Таких врагов было легко убить. Политических лидеров вражеских стран показывали с неприглядной стороны. Часто на экранах можно было увидеть жестокость, бесчеловечность, разрушительность действий врага. Всё это делалось для того, чтобы подавить в советских (и не только) солдатах страх, лишить нерешительности. Фильмы были нацелены на укрепление антинацистских настроений в обществе. Примером подобного служит один из эпизодов фильма «Два бойца» (1943). Главные герои вдвоём расстреливают наступающие колонны немцев. Это носило своего рода мотив мести, а также мотив защиты своего дома и страны.
А вот Германия, страна – агрессор, казалось, вовсе не обращала внимания на военные действия. Фильмы выходили как из конвейера, их было около 70 в год, в среднем. Однако и до этого приход нацистов к власти никак не влиял на немецкий кинематограф. Подавляющей частью были развлекательные фильмы, не имевшие к пропаганде никакого отношения. Население тоже было другим. Зажиточная публика была массовым зрителем. Немецкий кинематограф пытался отвлечь своё население от войны.
В Советской России тоже были мирные картины. Их было мало, но нельзя отрицать их существования. Это и музыкальные комедии, экранизации классики (Горького, Лермонтова, Чехова), лирические драмы. Подобные фильмы пережили свою эпоху, они и сейчас могут неплохо смотреться. Например, драма Михаила Ромма «Мечта» (1941) – история о том, как в отеле «Мечта» на Западной Украине несколько человек мечтают о настоящей жизни, она наступает лишь тогда, когда Западная Украина присоединяется к Советской Украине. Хозяйку отеля «Мечта», кстати, играет легендарная Фаина Раневская. Ей удалось отлично показать характер пани Розы, которая хоть моментами жестока и зла на людей, кто достатком меньше неё, может быть снисходительна, сострадательна и заинтересована в дальнейшей судьбе своих не очень богатых жильцов.
Сама по себе «Мечта» является своего рода иронией, тонкой насмешкой по отношению к тому, что человек может иметь надежду вырваться из нищеты.
А что насчёт послевоенного, мирного времени, что-то поменялось?
Люди, живущие в Советском Союзе, полагали, что нет ничего более святого, чем советская власть, считалось, что сталинизм будет существовать всегда. Природа советского киноискусства неизменна, как и тоталитарный режим.
После войны наблюдался спад кинопроизводства. Финансы в этом случае играли второстепенную роль. Цензура — вот, в чём причина! Правительство следовало принципу «чем меньше фильмов, тем меньше мороки». 1951 год можно вообще назвать «малокартиньем», фильмов выпустили всего 9, которые считались шедеврами (но это, конечно же, было не так). Удивительно, но уже в следующем году число увеличилось в 3 раза. Резкий скачок обуславливается призывом снимать больше фильмов, не думая только о шедеврах. Это было озвучено на XIX съезде ВКП(б).
Появилось на советских экранах нечто новенькое – биографические фильмы о выдающихся деятелях русской истории. Кинобиографий стало очень много. Неплохая идея. Да и в конце концов, историю своего государства нужно знать. Увы, все 24 биографические фильма, снятых за десять послевоенных лет, были однотипными. По заданной идее меньше всего шла речь о биографии какого-либо деятеля, будь то композитор, изобретатель, полководец или же поэт – все они были экранной тенью Сталина. Генералиссимуса обожествляли, для зрителей он становился своего рода античным божеством, которое умело перевоплощаться в разных людей и существовать всю человеческую историю.
Григорий Козинцев в 1951 году снимает «Белинского». В пространстве фильма критик занят лишь тем, что поучает писателей (Лермонтова, Некрасова, Тургенева), говорит как надо писать. Белинский обнимается с Герценом и Щепкиным, почтительно склоняется перед Гоголем. Забавно, что критик приветствует всех литераторов официально, но вот Некрасову он говорит: «Привет, Некрасов!». Создаётся ощущение, что он выполняет роль секретаря Белинского, потому что постоянно следует за ним по пятам.
Всё то, что пережила страна под диктатурой Сталина, с конца 1920-х гг. эмоционально воспринималось чуть ли ни вечной мерзлотой. Когда диктатора не стало, появились надежды на то, что «зима сменится весной», «мерзлота растопится и наступит оттепель». Так, слово «оттепель» стало метафорой «новой жизни».
В эпоху Шестидесятых советский кинематограф был немного отделённым от остального мира, однако, появились фильмы нового типа. Их авторы отказались работать политически, отказались от идеологии и сделали акцент на творчество. Такие картины были построены не так, как в сталинский период, были проникнуты несоветской духовностью. Это понесло свои последствия. Такие киноленты так и остались на полках фильмохранилищ, в особых отделах Госкино и Госфильмофонде. Так, «полочные» фильмы лежали десятилетиями. О «запрещённом кино» ходили слухи, они лишь изредка выходили в ограниченный прокат. Некоторые из них демонстрировали на подпольных просмотрах, участников которых нередко арестовывали. С этим можно провести параллель: когда у ребёнка отбирают и прячут конфеты, он всё равно найдёт их и съест.
Тем временем пропагандизм стал ослабевать. Однако в фильмах вечно шла речь про идеалы, к примеру «Коммунист» (1957) Юлия Райзмана. Фильм отличился своим названием и тем, что собрал 22 млн зрителей.
Именно в эти времена выходят фильмы, которые мы и сейчас часто видим по телевизору: «Карнавальная ночь» Эльдара Рязанова, «Весна на Заречной улице» Феликса Миронера и Марлена Хуциева, «Летят журавли» Михаила Калатозова, «Судьба человека» Сергея Бондарчука, «Иваново детство» Андрея Тарковского. Несмотря на цензуру, которая оставалась, фильмы стали меняться. Кино по-прежнему удерживали в рамках, но это уже были совсем не те пропагандистские советские фильмы сталинской эпохи.
А потом начался новый этап – «застой»…
В стране замедлялась экономика, снижался уровень жизни населения.. Страна не развивалась. Кино стало высокозатратным удовольствием, «спрятаться» от цензуры фильмам стало сложнее. Творчество превратилось бесперспективным. С новациями старались покончить. Тарковский уезжает из страны, а Кончаловский «забывает» о том, что снимал.
Особенность «застойных» лет в том, что фильмам на современные темы предпочитались фильмы исторические и литературные. Режиссёры «прятались», чтобы не хотели привлекать внимания партийных идеологов. Так появились «Неоконченная пьеса для механического пианино» (1977) и «Несколько дней из жизни И. И. Обломова» (1979) Михалкова.
Режиссёрское благополучие, если можно его таковым назвать, строилось на производстве и связанными с ним проблемами. Такая тема отражала состояние экономики и общественные отношения в стране. Благодаря тому, что производство было представлено как интенсивно развивающаяся сфера деятельности, а люди на производстве – как высокосознательные герои труда, режиссёрам удалось заслужить доверие идеологов и обеспечить себе благополучие.
Знаменитый «Служебный роман» Эльдара Рязанова был «производственной» комедией, а ещё кассовым чемпионом эпохи, потому что собрал 58, 4 млн зрителей.
Эти фильмы стоило назвать приближенными к реальности, вот только это лишь внешне похожий мир. Хотя и не всегда, потому что часто он более благоустроенный. Герои либо слишком ответственные, либо слишком безответственные. Зрителя и его окружение при этом нельзя было отнести ни к тому, ни к другому типу. Общая идейная тенденция трансформировалась в сокрытие, заслонение от зрителя подлинной жизни. Ложная реальность советских кинокартин стала лёгкой пропагандой эпохи «застоя».
А дальше… Дальше началась “перестройка” (1985-1991). Времена, отделяющие распад Советского Союза и образование Российской Федерации. Для кинематографа эти годы стали трещиной. Кино того времени нельзя было назвать ни советским, ни партийным, ни несоветским. Фильмы были ещё даже не российскими. Кинематограф стал странным, безыдейным, никак не повлиявшими на развитие.
Обстановка в стране становилась более беспокойной, а кино ещё больше отдалялось от реальных событий. С одной стороны, так пытались отвлечь зрителей от суровых будней, а с другой стороны, предлагаемые для просмотра фильмы никак не интересовали зрителей, да и режиссёрам было не до них. Посещаемость кинотеатров начала падать, потому что людям было трудно понять то, что им предлагали режиссёры. Общество хотело понять, что происходит в их реальности, отвлечься от меняющихся условий жизни.
В тот момент многие фильмы были метафоричными, больше философскими, непонятными для массового зрителя. Они рассчитывались на критиков и на самих режиссёров, которые подобное снимали.
Сергей Юрской снял фильм «Чернов. Chernov». Задумка достаточно интересна: история про архитектора Чернова, которому не удаётся уехать в Испанию. Что он делает? Создаёт себе два мира и живёт не только своей жизнью, но и жизнью Chernov’a, вымышленного двойника. Герой в воображении придумал себе мир. Сейчас можно было бы сказать, что у архитектора просто какое-нибудь психическое отклонение или же разыгралась фантазия (что-то очень сильно, раз он в здравом уме начал жить какой-то воображаемой жизнью). Посыл мог бы быть неплохим. Мечты о другом мире, своего рода это романтическое двоемирие, но фильм вышел плоским. Двойник не получил мотивов и образов, точнее, он не имел экранного подтверждения, автору приходилось верить на слова (из-за того, что слов в те времена говорили много, им никто и не верил), а воображаемая жизнь была показана на «вещественном уровне».
Да… Именно таким было и качество съёмки. Кадр жутко размытый и непонятный, но он правда был в фильме.
В середине 1980-х, когда началась перестройка, волна видео накрыла нашу страну. Контрабандным путём начали проникать книги, вещи, фильмы из других стран. С кино было особенно сложно, потому что в основном оно было записано на плёнку, которая лежала в достаточно заметных коробках.
В 1990-х начало распространяться видеопиратство. Партийная цензура ослабевала, а вместе с ней и работа таможни (поэтому видеокассеты было возможно пронести), впоследствии идеологический досмотр вообще прекратился. Это привело к потоку фильмов, преимущественно американских. Они стали считаться «вредными», потому что внимание на отечественный кинематограф никто не обращал.
Арест Горбачева. Приветствия Ельцина. Рост инфляции. Пустеющие прилавки магазинов. На этом фоне в 1990-е выходили отечественные фильмы. А было ли в них какое-то отличие? Увы… Было лишь то же самое нежелание посмотреть вокруг. Правда, были фильмы, отражающие реальные события, но на тот момент, это уже было не так актуально, к примеру, «Афганский излом» (1991) Владимира Бортко про сына одного из офицеров, которого направляют в роту десантников в разгар войны, чтобы он мог получить орден; «Угра – территория любви» (1991) Михалкова про запрет в монгольских семьях иметь больше троих детей (очень похоже на действительность, только снова потерявшую актуальность).
А что происходит с кинематографом в России сейчас?
Люди всё также продолжают закрывать глаза на какие-то проблемы. Большая часть фильмов служит фоном («отвлекающая»). Каждый год на экраны выходят одна на другую похожие комедии, где смеются над какими-то пороками или вовсе над тем, что не смешно. Наверное, в этом и заключается пропаганда. Сквозь призму юмора нам пытаются показать, что в нашей жизни сейчас всё не так плохо, что живём мы, в целом, хорошо. Верят ли сами создатели в это? Неизвестно. Однако многие комедии лишь иллюзия «идеального» мира…
